During retirement, diabetic retinopathy compromised his vision, so he turned to his other love, aviation, volunteering and then working at the North Little Rock Airport until his death. Over the years, he worked at other jobs, retiring from Arkansas Packaging. Bobby worked with Fairfield Communities producing technical drawings and architectural renderings. When Bobby’s father died in 1972, the family moved back to Arkansas to be closer to family. For their teaching certificates, they were required to study Texas history, so they attended summer school at West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas, where, Bobby studied art under Emilio Cabellero. After graduation, the family lived in Perryton, TX from 1969-1972, where Bobby taught high school art and sociology, while Carol taught English.

After the Air Force, he entered Arkansas Tech University in Russellville, AR. Air Force (1960-1964) with postings to England and at a missile silo in Arkansas. Reminiscent of Andrew Wyeth’s work, it speaks of a deep peace with a job well done and a well-deserved rest. Bobby was drawn more to rural scenes, the quiet moments. Whether he painted a fence post or created a duck decoy, he created a unique vision of the world. He was traditional and produced traditional art, yet with unexpected insights. Humor, faith, and a deep love of family-his approach to life was steady, yet creative. He saw the world through the artist’s lens, and brought the beauty of God’s world to the canvas.

He was born on August 27, 1942, in Russellville to Pearl and Erwin Jess Martin. Bobby Martin age 77, of Sherwood, passed away on February 6, 2020.
